Top 5 Best Video game characters

Have you ever found yourself controlling or in the presence of a character that just radiates brilliance? Someone that just attracts all of the attention? This is rare for me, and I am willing to share with you my top 5 video game characters. You feel honored now, right?... right? All joking aside, here is my list:

1. Charlie Tunoku (Giant Bomb's name for the Persona 4 protagonist)- This character was named by none other than the good people at Giantbomb.com. No, this is not the actual character's name, but why not get creative with your gaming? It's more interesting that way.

2. John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)- Cowboy, father, gunslinger, John has quite a couple of things going for him. As far as honorable men go, John Marston is among the top.

3. Skarlet (Mortal Kombat 9)- Mortal Kombat is known for it's extremely brutal characters and fatalities, but few times do I actually find myself fearing one. Skarlet is a red ninja , originally a color pallet glitch in the earlier Mortal Kombat games, but wow is she violent. I have never seen someone hoist their enemy into the air and bathe in their blood. Pretty terrifying.

4. Noble 6 (Halo: Reach)- To me, Noble 6 was the classic "hero". He died saving others and showed no fear in the face of death. I believe the final scene with Noble 6 will forever be a classic and memorable one.

5. Sheogorath (Oblivion)- Psychopath. This word PERFECTLY sums up Sheogorath's character. An all powerful nutcase. When I think of Sheogorath, I remember accidentaly hitting him with a fire spell, and him clapping his hands and sending me 200 stories above Suicide Hill.

A Brief Introduction...

-Automated secure transmission incoming from: Vault-tec Vault 21-
-Message Begins-

Hey there guys, I'm Michael, and I've been a close friend of the other three posters for quite some time. I'm not supposed to give out names, so for the sake of the blog, my pen name is Courier Six. I'm an avid gamer, and my favorite games tend to be open-world RPG's. I have nothing against FPS's, or against fighting games, but I'm typically not a huge fan. My typical topic of discussion here will be gaming reviews, gaming news, and the like. There isn't much more to say, unless I should overstep my bounds and begin a long rant concerning trivial matters such as the future of the current gen consoles, or the classic: "Which is better, Kirk or Picard?", so I think I'll just wrap this up. Next time, the posts will have less run-ons. I just needed to express my point. Oh, and yeah, I know it's tacky, but I happen to like the whole emergency transmission theme, so I'm keeping it.

Favorite Fighting Games

Seeing as how I just can't seem to figure out how to introduce this post, i'm just going to type out my idea: "My top 3 favorite fighting games on the xbox 360". Now, when I say on the xbox 360, I mean non XBLA titles, because sorting through all of those would just be a pain, and i'm not comfortable enough with this "blog a day" thing to actually take extensive amounts of time on a single topic. Most likely, I will in the future, but not now. Okay now, without further adieu, here are my top 3:

1. Mortal Kombat 9

2. SoulCalibur 4

3. Marvel vs. Capcom 3

(also, as a sidenote, I would just like to throw in Blazblue: Continuum Shift into to mix because I would like for that game to have a few more fans. It's pretty interesting, if your into anime and things of the sort...)

Now onto the summaries!!
Mortal Kombat 9 is what I like to call "America's fighting game". I say this because the company is from America, it is more popular in America then in most other countries, and it is extremely violent. Now mind you, this is not why I enjoy the game, they are just some little interesting facts that I happened to come across. As for the game itself, it has quite a bit going for it. The most in depth story mode any fighting game has ever had (not a single loading screen between fights and cutscenes), interesting characters whose moves are quick and easy to understand, and a VERY large extra content vault. Not to mention the fatalities, which in itself make the game worth buying, just to see the strange and extreme ways the developers decided to kill off their characters (sounds disturbing which... well... it actually is... but I assure you that each fatality is unique and, after awhile, bearable.). So if you are looking for a violent and easily comprehend-able fighting game with many weird any strange nuggets of comedy wedged in, Mortal Kombat 9 is right up your alley!

SoulCalibur 4... where to start...
I'm going to be honest with you, this game is relatively old, well, at least in terms of it's console release date. Basically, it started selling in 2007, not very long after the Xbox 360's release, so it was one of the first games released on the console. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad, it's just a bit... out of date. But no worries! This does not effect gameplay in the slightest! In fact, gameplay is probably the second highest reason I enjoy this game so much. 8- way run. This mechanic, which was new to me at the time, allowed the player to choose how he/she wanted to attack via 8 directions. This allowed for some pretty devastating combos and maneuvers. Though this did make the game much more tactical, it is not the reason I enjoyed it so much. You may think i'm crazy for enjoying a fighting game so much for this reason, but hey, i'm not your average gamer! I LOVED the character creator. NEVER have I been able to create Ronald McDonald, Mario/Luigi, and every character from Kingdom Hearts in a single game. It may just be me, but watching Cloud Strife beat up Nightmare and Voldo is oddly satisfying.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3, one of the most hyper fighting games I have ever played...
This game is like the bullet-hell shooters of fighting games. If you aren't dominating the fight, you are being bounced from wall to wall while Wesker and Super Skrull wreck your life with ridiculous combos and supers. Meanwhile, Sentinel is firing lasers and rockets from every possible direction, eliminating any possible ability to block. Be that as it may, this is not the game, it's just ranked matches. If you would like to avoid a humiliating defeat, don't jump right into a ranked game, experiment a bit. See what character you are comfortable with, and what team compliments his supers the best. I enjoy this game solely for it's combat. I don't usually play any fast-paced fighting games, but Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has changed my mind a bit. The combination of hundreds of relentless combos to the beautiful new image of the Marvel and Capcom characters makes this game quite the ride. If your looking for a quick and largely team based fighting game, I recommend picking this title up via Games on Demand, Gamefly, or whatever system of obtaining games you may have.

Also, if you are interested in facing a terrible opponent with almost zero precision or tactic, or just want somebody who has a microphone to go a few rounds with, send a message to Blade579 on Xbox 360.

Mafia 2

Mafia 2 features a young Italian man living in the United States in the 1940s, through till the 1950s. The game itself is an open world third person shooter. The setting is very true to the culture of the 40s, and 50s, with older cars, clothes, music and of course crime.

Although most sequel games never quite live up to their predecessor, this game is surely an exception. While featuring an intense storyline, with twists and curves at every turn, the game also gives a lot of freedom. During the game you have the option to, of course beat up the local paper salesman just for being there, blow up gas stations, steal nice or ugly cars, rank up a huge amount of policemen drive your car off the many improvised ramps and many more.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who has a longing for those golden years, or to anyone who enjoys open world games.

Pokemon Crystal

I apologize for not posting recently, I've had some computer problems. So to start off with my very first game review, I will be discussing none other than Pokemon Crystal version for the Gameboy SPh. First I'd like to say that all in all I really enjoyed the game. I love older pokemon games, and this game does not disappoint. With a large and fun storyline, classic pokemon and fun game play, this game will keep you entertained for hours.

The storyline of this game takes you to several different cities, each with its own unique story. While some towns are not quite as interesting as others, every city has all the necessities of any pokemon trainer. One of which is the pokemon hospital, which saved my skin more times than I'd care to remember, and also acts as the link between trading and battling with other players.

Of course then comes the Pokemon. While this game featured many recognizable pokemon, I personally feel that some were left out. With that said the game features a variety of notable and not so notable pokemon. I personally enjoyed this game until the early hours of the morning. I definitely recommend this game to any Pokemon fans out there who still enjoy the classic games.

Top 5 Recent Best Video Game Stories

It's rare when you come across a story that just engrosses you to the point where you absolutely have to finish it, even if it means pulling an all nighter on the day of your finals. (by the way, don't do that. BAD idea...) Games with the thickest and most interesting stories are usually RPG's, but recently, I have actually seen the most amazing stories come from free roam and FPS games. This poll is the result of all 4 of the Gamerzinthelobby moderators' opinions of the "Top 5 Recent Best Video Game Stories":

Red Dead Redemption: 25 Things to do in Multiplayer

Have you ever found yourself in RDR free roam, shooting at the law and other players, just waiting for the excruciatingly long experience bar to fill? This happens to me almost every time I decide to pop into the cowboy free roam shooter and find a session. It may just be me, but I have had enough of the tedious "shoot, melee, gain bounty" mentality that I have carried out for months, so I have devised a "list" of sorts to help you entertain yourself and/or your partner:

  1. Gain a HUGE bounty, then escape to Mexico!
  2. Have a fistfight on dangerous surfaces (large rocks, over a body of water, edge of a building)
  3. Start a huge brawl with NPC's
  4. Play "how many knives can you stick into your friend?"
  5. Name your mount
  6. Set bears on fire
  7. (undead nightmare req) Beat up zombies... with your fists
  8. Fall down the cliff on Torquemada
  9. Stab dynamite
  10. Stab fire bottles
  11. Stab people
  12. Run towards other players holding lit dynamite
  13. Fight bulls with your fists in MacFarlane's Ranch
  14. Walk around in Aurora Basin (shallow water)
  15. Get the covered wagon in Gaptooth Breach
  16. Jump out of a wagon at high speed
  17. Knife your friend's mount while riding very fast
  18. Play with dynamite
  19. Get chased by cougars
  20. Have a HUGE posse battle at Cochinay
  21. Search for a donkey, then try to keep it as your mount for an hour
  22. Run into players/NPC/s with your mount
  23. Try to disarm EVERYONE
  24. Push pedestrians
  25. Drive your mount/wagon/chariot off the cliff between Armadillo and MacFarlane's Ranch.
If you want me to post more, please comment or message me and I'll go around in free roam and discover weirder and more amusing things to do.

Alone in the Dark

So I'm sitting on my couch thinking "I have absolutely no games to play!" when I remembered that I had just picked up Alone in the Dark a few days ago. I had this epiphany at around 12:00am this morning, so I couldn't exactly form a very intelligent or even sensible review of this game with the 30 minutes I will play of it before I go to sleep, but I gave it a shot anyway, Of the first 30 minutes of Alone in the Dark, I realized one very important thing, noticing the warning signs of a bad game are very helpful tools. I noticed that this game was going to be a grind the second I was shown the first actual button prompt, "Press right stick to blink"... I mean, really? Why on Earth would I want to make my deranged Survival Horror protagonist blink?! Maybe this mechanic is just part of the tutorial of the game, but I have seen several people die so far, so I assume I am somewhat in the game. (Though I have yet to encounter an enemy...)

As far as survival horror games go, this game is delivering somewhat. Given I died within the first five minutes multiple times due to lack of an objective, the game looks legitimately scary. If I were to pinpoint exactly what has scared me the most, it would probably be the lack of an enemy. Honestly, there is nothing worse than seeing glimpses of an enemy tear someone apart, only to have them vanish before you can lock your gaze upon them. If they keep this shrouded terror in the shadows, I expect some sucker punch scares and very tense situations further in the game. Hopefully, the horror and surprise will make up for the strange mechanics and the awkward controls.

Now, to get to the reason I actually picked up this game in the first place. I had heard stories from a friend of mine about a game with a very interesting build-your-own-weapon- mechanic, and, seeing as how Dead Rising 2 felt like more of an arcade game to me, I wanted a survival game with a building weapons mechanic similar to that of Dead Rising's. Have I seen any of that yet? No, but that's just because of my failure to comprehend what the tutorial meant by "follow the man with the gun's instructions". ( I decided to take the "I'll do what I want!" option and did the opposite of what he instructed several times, and each time was met by a butt-stroke to the back of the head.) Well, seeing as though I have literally seen about 15 min of actual gameplay, I will save the actual review for later. Until then!

Completion of Xbox 360 games

Are you or a friend burdened with the "completionist" bug? Do you have the urge to find every collectible, complete every mission, or finish every objective? I do, but not to the point where I cannot finish a game without discovering everything. I have actually only completed only one game all the way, meaning I finished every quest, collected and stored every weapon and armor, made every spell, bought all houses, and discovered all locations. The game I speak of is Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. I have invested over 200 hours into that game, ensuring I didn't miss a single thing. I don't know what it was about Oblivion, but it was just so interesting to me. The physics engine, the story, a first person open world RPG, it had so much going for it. Unfortunately, I haven't gone back to play it since I finished everything, so now it is just sitting at the bottom of my stack of games.

Honestly, I could not think of anything better to write about today. This "post a day" challenge was issued to help improve my writing skills, and that is all well and good, but I just can't think of what to write about. I didn't have time today to research anything of importance, and with the free time I did have, I just tried to unlock golden visor in Halo Reach. Hmmm... I could talk about Halo Reach, but I assume that it has already had hundreds of reviews by now, so I will just post about my experience. Let's start with... Matchmaking.

Right off the bat, I will introduce the main topic that drive even the most experienced players to ragequitting: T-Bagging. (T-Bagging- the act of repeatedly crouching over the body of a previously killed alien/enemy/teamate, and mimicking... well, I don't have to go that far...) Ok, let's just say that T-Bagging is a juvenile, strange, and very rude form of being a sore loser. I can't possibly begin to fathom why someone enjoys imagining doing "that" to a dead alien/enemy/teamate. Yes, I am keeping this post free from vulgar language, but that is only because "certain people" read this blog. If you want to read someone insult a race, be prejudice, or throw random insults at a wall, look at any other blog. Well, as much as I would like to continue, my character on Halo Reach beckons me to buy him the gold visor. I will post again in the morning. (or night, whichever is more convenient...)

Intro

Hi everyone, smightnight here. I just thought I would do a brief introduction of myself to the blog. I enjoy gaming, that's why I'm here, although I'm not a "hard core" gamer, I still find myself playing many of the games that everyone loves. I enjoy not only newer games, but older ones as well. My personal favorite of all time is Pac-Man. So, I will be posting game reviews, guides, strategies, and whatever else finds its way into my thoughts. I'm mostly on Halo Reach, but I'm also playing Pokemon Crystal version on my Gameboy SP, and Mafia 2, so those are the games I will be mostly posting about throughout the week. If you have any questions, concerns or advice please feel free to email me at rdsmightnight@gmail.com.

I see my friend has come up with his own motto I guess I will too
"Till next time in the lobby"

Gamerzinthelobby introduction

This blog was established for the members of Gamerzinthelobby to post gaming reviews, news, strategies, guides, glitches, easter eggs, etc. I am the leader of this group, and was tasked with a "post a day" challenge issued by my father, so I will be quite active. As for the other members, I have no idea. At times they will participate and post regularly, and at others, they will completely forget the existence of this blog. But rest assured, unless I lose connection to the internet or some catastrophic event happens, I shall continue to post. Unfortunately, this post will probably be the only thing I put up today, so if anyone just happened to wander onto this blog expecting a review or guide, I apologize. I promise to post some actual game material eventually, but not now.
Now, in order to keep track of who posts what, here is a list of the current four members of Gamerzinthelobby's internet usernames: Deadpool579 (me), smightnight, soda, and Courier Six. These four will (hopefully) post relevant and interesting views on the gaming community and helpful tips for gamers in need. I (Deadpool579) will most likely post about recent gaming news, reviews, and achievement guides, but that doesn't mean that I will not post anything besides that, nor will the other members of the  group. We tend to frequent specific topics that are either interesting or idiotic, but that does not mean that our posts will be limited to wacky and unusable information, it's just something that may happen every now and again. As far as profanity goes, I prefer to keep things professional and entertaining, but I can't speak for the other members of the group. Unfortunately, some tempers may flare and a few unnecessary things may be said about a specific game or company, but I will do my best to make sure that all members of Gamerzinthelobby keep the insults tasteful, and avoid insulting mothers.
When our community is not posting blogs or videos, we are gaming. We mostly play Xbox 360 and computer games, but some of us do enjoy going back to the basics and playing a couple old arcade games on XBLA. At times, I may dust off the old N64, Gamecube, Gameboy, PS2, or PS1 and play some of my old time favorites. I am actually currently playing through Persona 4 on the Playstation 2, and Persona 3 Portable on the PSP, so I will most likely talk about those titles and simpler ones when I tire of Xbox games. As of right now, I just picked up "Alone in the Dark" and "Fear" at Gamestop for their 2 for 1 sale on used games, so I will most likely post my experience with the games as I progress and will also attempt to film myself while playing it. (I gave "soda" Farcry 2, so he will probably post about that) Now that this post has exceeded the minimum amount of words needed for my introduction, so I will continue to post tomorrow. Now I would like to try signing this post with my username and motto:
